a Tadzhik percussion instrument. The tavliak consists of a single-sided drum with a ceramic or, occasionally, turned wooden body in the shape of a goblet. The wide upper end is covered with a stretched membrane, which is warmed over a fire before the instrument is played. The body is 350 to 400 mm high, and the membrane is 180 to 200 m in diameter. The tavliak is primarily an ensemble instrument.
