Bakhmutskii, Aleksei Ivanovich
Born 1893, in the Petrovo-Mar’evka mining camp, now in Voroshilovgrad Oblast; died Sept. 25, 1939. Soviet inventor; creator of the world’s first industrial model of a coal combine, which was put to practical use in 1932. In 1939 the Kirov Factory at Gorlovka produced a series of Bakhmutskii’s combines (five machines) that were employed in the mines of the Donets Coal Basin.
