Vadianus

(latinized name of Joachim von Watt). Born 1483 or 1484 in Saint Gallen; died Apr. 8, 1551, in Saint Gallen. Leader of the Swiss Reformation, humanist, physician.

Burgomaster of Saint Gallen beginning in 1526, Vadianus took part there in furthering the Reformation in the spirit of H. Zwingli; he persecuted the Anabaptists.
