Vadim Viacheslavovich Pokshishevskii

Pokshishevskii, Vadim Viacheslavovich

 

Born Aug. 1 (14), 1905, in Moscow. Soviet economic geographer. Doctor of geographical sciences. (1952).

Pokshishevskii graduated from the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute in 1927. From 1954 to 1968 he was a professor at the V. I. Lenin Moscow Pedagogical Institute. Between 1959 and 1965 he was head of the department of the economic geography of the USSR at the Geographic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Since 1965, he has been senior research worker at the Institute of Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Pokshishevskii’s main works are concerned with the population geography of the USSR and other countries, the economic geography of the USSR, historical geography, and theoretical issues in economic geography. Pokshishevskii has been awarded the Great Gold Medal of the Geographical Society of the USSR.
