Prussianism

Prussianism

reactionary, militaristic traditions of the ruling classes of Prussia, and, after 1871, of Germany unified by Prussia. In historical literature, “Prussianism” also frequently refers to the reactionary, militaristic, bureaucratic police-state regime in Prussia and the German Empire.

The distinguishing features of Prussianism, represented chiefly by the Junker class, were chauvinism, hatred of other peoples (particularly the Slavs), aggressiveness, the cult of brute force, loyalty to the monarch, contempt for culture and progress, and ruthless discipline. Elements of Prussianism are retained in the ideology and practice of revanchist circles in the Federal Republic of Germany.
