Prut Peace Treaty of 1711

a treaty signed between Russia and Turkey on July 12 (23) outside the city of Iaşi, near the Prut River. Negotiations were led by P. P. Shafirov for Russia and Bataldji Pasha for Turkey.

Because of the failure of the Russian Army in the Prut Campaign of 1711, Russia pledged to return Azov to Turkey and to raze the fortresses of Taganrog, Bogoroditsk, and Kamennyi zaton. Turkey agreed to expel Charles XII of Sweden from its territory and to refrain from preventing the withdrawal of Russian forces. The Prut Peace Treaty was never fully implemented, but its conditions served as the basis for the treaties signed between Russia and Turkey on Apr. 5(16), 1712, and Apr. 13 (24), 1713, by which Russia pledged to withdraw its forces from the territory of the Right-bank Ukraine.
