(South African National Antarctic Expedition), a scientific antarctic station of the Republic of South Africa. Located on the coast of Queen Maud Land (East Antarctica) on the Fimbulisen Ice Shelf. The station was opened Feb. 12, 1962. The winter staff numbers 12–20. Systematic aerometeorologi-cal, glaciological, and geophysical observations, as well as medical research, are conducted at the station.
