释义 | StentingStent´ing
stentingstent·ing(stent'ing)stentingThe use of a physical device, such as a tubular stainless steel or plastic mesh or coil of wire, to keep a body tube fully open. Stents are used in the CORONARY ARTERIES, the AORTA, the renal arteries, the FEMORAL ARTERIES, the intestine and elsewhere. In addition to the widespread use in arteries, self-expanding metallic stents have been successfully used to maintain patency in narrowing of urethras and bile ducts and for swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) caused by cancer of the OESOPHAGUS. Silicone rubber stents have been used in the TRACHEA and BRONCHI. Stents in arteries are liable to blockage by blood clotting. Anticoagulant treatment is required. Drug-eluting coronary stents designed to prevent restenosis are currently displacing bare-metal stents. Sirolimus appears to be the drug of choice at the time of writing. |
