Stepanian, Tsolak Aleksandrovich

 

Born Dec. 19, 1910 (Jan. 1,1911), in the village of Satkhe, in what is now Bog-danovka Raion, Georgian SSR. Soviet philosopher. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1964). Member of the CPSU since 1938.

Stepanian graduated from the K. Liebknecht Moscow Pedagogical Institute. He has taught philosophy in higher educational institutions of Moscow since 1933. In 1946 he joined the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and in 1965 became head of the sector (since 1972, the department) of scientific communism. His chief works deal with historical materialism and scientific communism. Stepanian has been awarded three orders and various medals.
