Sanchiang Plain

(also Amur-Sungari Lowland), a lowland in northeastern China located between the lower Ussuri River and the Amur. The lower course of the Sungari River flows across the plain. The Sanchiang Plain is approximately 400 km long and 120–160 km wide. It is located on the site of a tectonic trough filled with fluvial deposits. Insular ridges rise above the flat and extremely swampy surface of the plain. Floods caused by summer monsoons and autumn typhoons cause much of the Sanchiang Plain to become inundated. There are coniferous and broad-leaved forests (Ussuri taiga) and areas of meadow steppe.
