Special Features:Park takes its name from a natural sandbar between South Hero Island and the Vermont mainland. Over tens of thousands of years, sediment washing downstream from the Lamoille River sank to the bottom where the river emptied into the lake, eventually creating a marshland south and east of the park, and a sandbar to the west.
