Somervell, Brehon Burke

(1892–1955) soldier, businessman; born in Little Rock, Ark. A West Point graduate (1914), as an army engineer he worked on various projects including some in France during World War I. On detached duty as chief of the Works Progress Administration in New York City (1936–40), he supervised construction of La Guardia Field. During World War II he headed the army's Services of Supply. After retiring in 1946, he became president of the Koppers Company.
