PseudococcidaePseudococcidae(mealybugs), a family of insects of the suborder Coccidae. The active, saclike females are covered with a powdery waxy coating and often have waxy scales along the edges. The insects are 3–6 mm long. The eggs are deposited in a white, cottony sac. There are more than 1,000 species of mealybugs, distributed throughout the world, predominantly in the tropics. In the USSR there are about 200 species. Mealybugs damage subtropical greenhouse plants, house plants, and grapes. Some species are objects of quarantine. Pseudococcidae
