Azerogly

(pseudonym of Balash Allakhbagysh ogly Abizade). Born Nov. 11, 1921, in Baku, into the family of a worker. Azerbaijani poet.

In 1938 Azerogly’s family moved to Iranian Azerbaijan (Iran). He has been a member of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party since 1945. From 1941 to 1945 he took part in the Iranian Azerbaijan national liberation movement. In 1947 he emigrated to Soviet Azerbaijan. He graduated from the philological faculty of Azerbaijan University, and his work has been published since 1937. His first collection, Poems, came out in 1944. Azerogly wrote of love for one’s homeland and the revolutionary mood of the Iranian people, and he exposed fascism. In his poetry dedicated to Soviet Azerbaijan, themes of constructive labor, friendship among peoples, and the struggle for peace are prevalent. The poetry of Azerogly is noted for its profound lyricism.
