Location:Forest headquarters office is located near the north edge of Chariton, 1 block west of Highway 14.
Facilities:Some units have campgrounds, including equestrian campgrounds, stocked ponds for fishing, and developed trails.
Activities:Camping, picnicking, fishing, horseback riding, cross-country skiing,snowmobiling, hiking, and backpacking in designated areas; most of theforest is open to hunting.
Special Features:Forest was a base of operations for the Civilian Conservation Corpsdemonstration plantings of hardwoods and conifers in the 1930s. Overthe years, ongoing practices have continued to improve forestproduction, as well as create wildlife habitat, control erosion, andprotect the watershed.
