Shimizu

(shĭmē`zo͞o), city (1990 pop. 241,523), Shizuoka prefecture, E central Honshu, Japan, on Suruga Bay. A port and fishing center, it exports tea, oranges, and canned food. Shimizu produces motorcycles, ships, and musical instruments, and is home to petroleum and aluminum refineries. Nearby is Miho-no-matsubara, a breakwater famed for its beauty.

a city in Japan, on southern Honshu, Shizuoka Prefecture. Population, 238,000 (1972). Located on Suruga Bay, Shimizu is a port for foreign trade, with a freight turnover of 15.6 million tons (1971). It has enterprises of the aluminum, petroleum-refining, and food and condiment industries, including a tea-processing plant, a cannery, and a vegetable-oil mill. It also has woodworking enterprises and shipyards. Shimizu serves the local fishing industry.
