Pseudomaquis

Pseudomaquis

thickets of evergreen hard-leaved and thorny shrubs or trees (with an admixture of deciduous species), from which are absent a number of species characteristic of maquis, including the strawberry tree, myrtle, and olive. Pseudomaquis are common in mountains, to elevations of 1,000 m, in the Mediterranean region, mainly on the Balkan Peninsula and in Asia Minor. They include box, Adriatic oak (Quercus cerris), juniper, and pistachio; most often one of these species predominates.
