An “island” of preserved colonic mucosa, surrounded by haemorrhagic ulcerated mucosa. Pseudopolyps are typical of ulcerative colitis, but may be seen in nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial dysentery, amoebiasis due to Entamoeba histolytica and schistosomiasis.
