PseudotsugaPseudotsugaa genus of evergreen conifers of the family Pinaceae. These trees, which measure 20 to 100 m tall, have pyramidal crowns and brownish gray bark. The leaves are flattened, green or grayish, and single. The pendulous cones are 3–18 mm long and have winged seeds. Pseudotsuga have a lifespan of 700 years. There are seven known species, found in the mountains of western North America, Japan, and China. The wood is used in construction and furniture-making. In the USSR these trees, particularly the Douglas fir, are grown as ornamentals. Pseudotsuga
