It conserves water and protects water quality, conserves energy and resources, and reduces the carbon footprint while improving building performance and comfort. Sustainable design anticipates future energy sources and needs, and includes the informed selection of materials and products to reduce product-cycle environmental impacts. It also optimizes occupant health and comfort and seeks to enhance and increase ecological, social, and economic values over time.The art of designing physical objects and the built environment to comply with the principles of economic, social, and ecological sustainability in a way that reduces use of nonrenewable resources, minimizes environmental impact, and relates people with the natural environment.
