San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park
Location:Hiking trailhead is 4 miles northwest of Gainesville on SR 232;equestrian/mountain bike trailhead is of US 441 just south of Alachua.
Facilities:Hiking trails (southern two-thirds of the park); equestrian, mountain biking, and hiking trails (northern third of park).
Activities:Hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, wildlife viewing.
Special Features:Preserve has one of the few remaining mature forests in Florida. Thelimestone outcrops and extreme changes in elevation provide conditionsfor many species of hardwood trees. Bobcats, white-tailed deer, grayfoxes, turkeys, and many species of songbirds make their homes in thepreserve, which also features sinkholes, steephead springs, ponds, andsmall lakes.
