Tiurenkov, Aleksandr Alekseevich

 

Born Apr. 24, 1924, in Moscow. Soviet sculptor. Member of the CPSU since 1973.

Tiurenkov studied at the V. I. Surikov Moscow Art Institute from 1947 to 1953. His works include Soldier With the Newspaper “Pravda” (plaster of Paris, Museum of the Revolution of the USSR, Moscow) and The Year 1919 (granite, 1958, Museum of the Armed Forces, Moscow). As part of a team headed by E. V. Vuchetich, he worked on the memorial ensemble to the heroes of the battle of Stalingrad on Mamai Hill in Volgograd (reinforced concrete, 1963–67; Lenin Prize, 1970). Tiurenkov also designed K. I. Skriabin’s gravestone in Novodevichii Cemetery in Moscow (stone, 1974).

Tiurenkov has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
