Pshish

 

a river in Krasnodar Krai, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Kuban’ River. The Pshish is 270 km long, measured from the source of the Bol’shoi Pshish River, and drains an area of 1,850 sq km. It is formed by the confluence of the Bol’shoi-Pshish and the Malyi Pshish rivers, which originate on the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus. The upper course flows in a deep, narrow valley, which widens where the river emerges from the mountains. The Pshish is fed predominantly by rain. There are occasional freshets. The mean flow rate is approximately 25 cu m per sec, with a maximum rate of approximately 1,000 cu m per sec. The ice regime varies; in some years the Pshish does not freeze. Timber is floated on the river. The city of Khadyzhensk is on the Pshish.
