Pskem
a river in Tashkent Oblast, Uzbek SSR; the right fork of the Chirchik River (Syr Darya River basin). The Pskem is 149 km long, measured from the source of the Oigaing River, and drains an area of 2,830 sq km. It flows between the Pskem and Ugam mountain ranges. The river is fed predominantly by snow. The high-water season is May through August. The mean flow rate is 80.4 cu m per sec. The Charvak Hydroelectric Power Plant is situated on the Chirchik River, near the mouth of the Pskem.
Pskem
a mountain range in the western Tien-Shan, on the border between the Uzbek and Kirghiz SSR’s. The Pskem Range is 160 km long, with a maximum elevation of 4,299 m, at Mount Beshtor. The range is composed of limestones, schists, and granites. Alpine and subalpine meadows are found on the slopes; vegetation on the lower part of the mountains and in the river valleys consists of sparse juniper forests, poplar thickets, and shrubs.
