Tsagolov, Georgii Aleksandrovich

Born June 29 (July 11), 1897, in the village of Khristianovskoe, now the city of Digora, Severnaia Ossetiia ASSR; died there Apr. 29, 1919. One of the organizers of the struggle for Soviet power in the Caucasus. Member of the Communist Party from 1916.

The son of a teacher, Tsagolov enrolled in the faculty of law of Moscow University in 1916. He took part in the February Revolution of 1917 in Moscow. In April 1917 he became a revolutionary leader in Vladikavkaz (now Ordzhonikidze), where he served as chairman of the Central Committee of the Kermen Party. In 1918 he was sent to Sankamis to effect the dissolution of the Turkish Front; he served as chairman of the front’s revolutionary military council. Tsagolov carried out party work in Baku and then in the Northern Caucasus. He created military detachments of Kermenites, served on the Terek oblast people’s soviet, was chairman of the Military Revolutionary Council of Severnaia Ossetiia, and helped lead the defense of Vladikavkaz in 1919. During an attack by Denikin’s forces on the village of Khristianovskoe, Tsagolov was captured and killed by the White Guards.
