an urban-type settlement in Omutinskoe Raion, Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR. It is located on the upper reaches of the Vagai River, a tributary of the Irtysh. It has a railroad station on the Tiumen’-Omsk line. Population, 4,600 (1969). There are reinforced-concrete and mixed feed plants and railroad transportation enterprises.
Vagai
a river in Tiumen’ Oblast of the RSFSR, left tributary of the Irtysh. Length, 555 km; basin area, 23,000 sq km. It flows in the southern part of the Western Siberian Plain. It overflows a great deal in the spring and becomes shallow in the summer. It is mainly fed by snow. The annual average waterflow is 8.23 eu m per sec (at the village of Novovyigryshnaia). The lower course of the river is navigable. The Vagai valley is densely populated. Ermak died at the mouth of the Vagai River, which is called Ermak Bay.
