Ubsu-Nur Basin

 

a tectonic depression in the northwestern part of the Mongolian People’s Republic and in the USSR (specifically, the southern part of the Tuva ASSR); the northern section of the Great Lakes Depression, between the Tannu-Ola and Khan-Khukhiin-Ula mountain ranges. The elevation of the basin ranges from 753 to 1,500 m. It is a broken plain with desert steppes. Lake Ubsu-Nur is located in the basin.
