Sutgof, Aleksandr Nikolaevich
Born Dec. 4 (16), 1801, in Kiev; died Aug. 14 (26), 1872, in the city of Borzhomi. Decembrist. Son of a major general. Lieutenant of the Grenadier Life Guards regiment. Member of the Northern Society of Decembrists.
During the uprising of Dec. 14, 1825, Sutgof led his company onto St. Petersburg’s Senate Square. He was condemned to death for this act, but the sentence was commuted to 20 years at hard labor, which Sutgof served in the Nerchinsk mines and in Petrovskii Zavod. Sutgof’s notes on the events of Dec. 14,1825, were published in 1907 in the journal Byloe (The Past; book four).
