Special Features:Dedicated in April of 1939, the San Jacinto Monument commemorates the famous battle between the Texan and Mexican armies on April 21, 1836, which won independence for Texas. The San Jacinto Museum of History, housed in the base of the monument, interprets four centuries of Texas history. Park is also the temporary berth of the historic Battleship Texas, last of the World War I-era dreadnoughts and the only surviving combat ship to have served in both World Wars I and II.
