Sanjo

a city in Japan, on the island of Honshu, in central Niigata Prefecture. Population, 79,000 (1972). Sanjo is a river port and railroad junction. It has textile and food-processing enterprises and is known for the manufacture of metalware; there are approximately 2,000 medium and small metalware enterprises. The surrounding areas have deposits of crude oil.
