释义 | Taylor, Myron CharlesTaylor, Myron Charles,1874–1959, American industrialist and diplomat, b. Lyons, N.Y. He practiced law and then ran a group of textile mills in New England. In 1932 he succeeded J. P. Morgan, Jr., as chairman of the board of the U.S. Steel Corp. In 1937, after meetings with John L. Lewis, then president of the Committee for Industrial Organization, Taylor brought his board to agree to collective bargaining with the Steel Workers Organizing Committee, thus averting a serious strike. He retired from business in 1938 and served on several diplomatic and charitable committees. Taylor was (1939–50) the President's personal diplomatic representative to the Vatican. He retained the rank of ambassador until 1953 and served on several special missions. |
