San Nicolás

 

a city in eastern Argentina, in Buenos Aires Province. Population, 56,000 (1960). San Nicolás is a port on the Paraná River and is accessible to seagoing vessels; meat and wool are exported. There is a railroad junction in the city. San Nicolás has a large metallurgical combine and food-processing and ceramics enterprises. There is a steam power plant in the city. San Nicolás was founded in 1748.
