Vavilov, Aleksandr Aleksandrovich

 

Born May 27, 1922, in the village of Kliuksovo, Roslavl’ Raion, Smolensk Oblast. Soviet scientist; specialist in automation and control processes. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1943.

Vavilov worked at the V. I. Ul’ianov (Lenin) Leningrad Electrical Engineering Institute after graduating from the institute in 1950; he was appointed rector of the institute in 1968 and a professor in 1969. His main works are devoted to frequency methods of studying absolute stability and periodic conditions in nonlinear automatic control systems and to the synthesis of control systems based on parametric sensitivity and invariance. Vavilov has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
