Vsevolodov, Vsevolod Ivanovich

 

Born 1790 in the village of Mar’inskoe, Nerekhta District, present-day Kostroma Oblast; died Dec. 3 (15), 1863, in St. Petersburg. Russian veterinarian and one of the founders of veterinary science and veterinary education in Russia. Honored professor at the St. Petersburg Academy of Medicine and Surgery (1842); doctor of medicine and surgery (1884). Graduated from the veterinary department of the St. Petersburg Academy of Medicine and Surgery in 1815 and from its medical department in 1816.

Vsevolodov wrote fundamental works on infectious and noninfectious diseases of farm animals and on the breeding of livestock that described most of the diseases and breeds of farm animals known in Russia. Vsevolodov received the Demidov Prize in 1836.
