Vocalization the singing of vowel sounds. The simplest form of vocalization is singing a vowel or syllable of a poetic text with two or more sounds, up to and including coloratura passages. There are entire works or parts of them in which, from beginning to end, the syllables of a certain word are sung—for example, ” Alleluia” (in Mozart’s Alleluia) and “Slava” (in the epilogue of Glinka’s opera Ivan Susanin). Singing one vowel sound completely without a text is also a form of vocalization. (See.) vocalization
