Remote Regulation
(Russian, teleregulirovanie), regulation at a distance achieved through telemechanic means (see). In its broadest sense, the English term “remote-control” is similar in meaning to the term “telemechanic” used here; the term “remote control” is used below in a narrower sense (see).
Remote regulation is a type of remote control in which measurement information on the current value of the controlled parameter is transmitted through a telemetering channel to the control center, where the measurement information is compared with the desired value of the parameter. As a result of the comparison, an error signal is generated. The error signal is transmitted through a remote-control channel to the controlled point, where the signal is converted into a control action. Meanwhile, the operator, by means of telemetering devices, monitors the change in value of the controlled parameter. As soon as the current value of the parameter becomes equal to the desired value, the operator transmits a command stopping further action on the controlled system.
When systems with a large number of parameters are controlled, the required parameter values are transmitted through the remote-control channel, and the error signals and control actions are generated at the controlled system. In this case, the telemetering channel is used for monitoring the correctness of the operation of the remote-regulation system. If the required parameter values are generated automatically, the remote-regulation system is said to be automatic.
