Tsar Cannon

 

an artillery piece (mortar), cast in 1586 by the Russian master founder Andrei Chokhov. The Tsar Cannon weighs 40 tons, measures 5.34 m in length, and has a caliber of 890 mm. It was designed for the defense of the Kremlin but was never fired. The Tsar Cannon is a monument to the Russian casting art. It is ornamented with bands of reliefs, including one on the right side of the muzzle depicting Tsar Fedor Ivanovich on horseback. The carriage was made in 1835. It stands in the Moscow Kremlin, near the Tsar Bell.
