Basiliscusa genus of reptiles of the iguana family, order of lizards. Adult males have a high, wedge-shaped, leathery protuberance on the occiput; they have a leathery crest along the spine and the anterior third of the tail, supported by elongated, spiny processes of the vertebrae. There are four species, which are widespread in tropical America. They inhabit trees, chiefly along river banks; they swim well.
