Vincent, François Nicolas

Born 1767, in Paris; died there on Mar. 30, 1794. Figure in the Great French Revolution. One of the leaders of the Hébertists.

From 1791, Vincent was an active member of the Cordelier Club. After the uprising of Aug. 10, 1792, he was a member of the General Council of the First Paris Commune. In April 1793 he became general secretary of the war minis-try. He led a vigorous struggle to fill the posts of army commanders with cadres from democratic strata who would be loyal to the revolution; for this he was severely criticized by G. J. Danton. In December 1793, Vincent was arrested with C. Ronsin but was soon released. In March 1794 he was again arrested. He was executed after being tried with the Hébertists.
