Vsevolod Vagin
Vagin, Vsevolod Ivanovich
Born Feb. 10 (22), 1823, in Irkutsk; died there Oct. 25 (Nov. 7), 1900. Russian historian and public figure.
Vagin lived in Irkutsk. He was a contributor to progressive publications such as the newspaper Vostochnoe obozrenie, which was published by N. M. Iadrintsev, and the journal Vek (century). From 1874 to 1877 he was editor and publisher of the newspaper Sibir’. He was a member of the East Siberian Division of the Russian Geographical Society. Vagin published more than 200 works on the history, geography, ethnography, and economy of Siberia; one of his most important books is Historical Information on Count M. M. Speranskii’s Work in Siberia From 1819 to 1822 (vols. 1-2, 1872).
