Ak Darya

(in Turkic-Iranian, “white river”), a right-bank tributary of the Zeravshan River, rising north of the city of Samarkand. The Ak Darya is 154 km long. Its bed is unstable in places. Its flow is regulated by locks. On the north, the Ak Darya borders on densely populated Miankale Island.
