(foh-tŏ-met -rik) A binary star that can be detected by virtue of periodic changes in its light curve. See eclipsing binary.

Photometric Binary

 

a star that is found to be a binary on the basis of the results of precise multicolor photoelectric photometry. If the components of a binary star have different surface temperatures, the results of such photometric measurements have characteristics that are not observed in single stars. (SeeBINARY STARS.)
