The city has a railroad station on the Kokand-Namangan-Andizhan line; a 33-km spur runs from Uchkurgan to Tash-Kumyr. Industry includes a vegetable-oil extraction plant, a cotton-ginning plant, a brickyard, and a brewery for the production of beer and nonalcoholic beverages. The city has a technicum that prepares students for careers in economic planning and management.
