Svetovidov, Anatolii Nikolaevich
Born Oct. 21 (Nov. 3), 1903, in Moscow. Soviet zoologist-ichthyologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953).
In 1925, Svetovidov graduated from the K. A. Timiriazev Moscow Agricultural Academy. Beginning in 1932 he worked at the Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Svetovidov’s principal works dealt with intraspecific variation, as well as with fish taxonomy and phylogeny based on comparative and functional morphology. He also studied the geographic distribution, origin, and population dynamics of fishes, especially cod and herring. Svetovidov has been awarded six orders and various medals.
