Sorochinsk

a city under oblast jurisdiction, administrative center of Sorochinsk Raion, Orenburg Oblast, RSFSR. Population, 25,000 (1974). Railroad station on the Kinel’-Orenburg line, 170 km northwest of Orenburg. Sorochinsk is situated on the left bank of the Samara River (a tributary of the Volga). A center for the processing of agricultural products, the city has a meat-packing plant, a flour mill, a milk plant, and plants for the production of mixed feeds and groats. A veterinary technicum is located in Sorochinsk.
