Sorokin, Gennadii Mikhailovich
Born Feb. 10 (23), 1910, in Chistopol’, Tatar ASSR. Soviet economist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1962). Member of the CPSU since 1939.
Sorokin graduated from the economics department of the University of Kazan in 1931. From 1933 to 1940 he did research and taught in Moscow. From 1940 to 1957 he worked on the State Planning Committee and from 1961 to 1969 he was director of the Institute of the Economics of the World Socialist System. In 1969 he became a senior research worker at the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and in 1972 he became head of the division of socialist reproduction there.
Sorokin’s principal works deal with national economic planning and the economic problems of the world socialist system and economic cooperation among the member countries of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (COMECON). Sorokin has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
