Location:Along the Wallkill River in northwestern New Jersey.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, trails, hand-launch boat ramps, historic sites.
Activities:Canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hunting, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, educational programs.
Special Features:Migratory birds on the Atlantic Flyway are naturally "funneled" through the valley, where the refuge's high-quality wetlands offer birds a place to rest and feed.
Habitats: 4,800 acres of swamps, fens, wet meadows, old fields and forests. Land acquistion is ongoing.
Access: Open dawn to dusk year round.
Wild life: Songbirds, wading birds, migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, and raptors, butterflies, dragonflies, bog turtles, bobcat, opossum, foxes, river otter, eastern cottontail, bats, salamanders, snakes, and frogs.
