TBRG1

A gene on chromosome 11q24.2 that encodes a protein, widely expressed but at low levels, which acts as a growth inhibitor. It can activate p53/TP53, causing G1 arrest, and collaborates with CDKN2A to restrict cell proliferation. TRBG1 redistributes CDKN2A into the nucleoplasm, is involved in maintaining chromosomal stability and has tumour suppressor activity.
Molecular pathology
TBRG1’s expression is reduced in primary carcinomas of lung, liver, breast, pancreas and kidney, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, and in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
