a city in Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR, under the jurisdiction of the Cheremkhovo city soviet. Landing on the left bank of the Angara River, 24 km from the Cheremkhovo railroad station on the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Population, 21,000 (1974). Svirsk has a mining equipment repair plant, the Vostsibelement Plant, which manufactures storage batteries, and the Avtospet-soborudovanie Plant, which produces specialized automobile equipment. An electrical mechanics technicum is located in the city.
