Phyllirea

 

a genus of low evergreen trees or shrubs of the family Oleaceae. The plants have simple, leathery leaves. The small white or greenish yellow flowers are in short axillary inflorescence. The fruit is a dry bluish black drupe. There are four or five species, growing in the Mediterranean region and Southwest Asia. The species P. medwedewii grows in the USSR—in Western and Southern Transcaucasia. The plants have ornamental glossy foliage. They tolerate pruning and topiary clipping. The species P. medwedewii, P. angustifolia, and P. latifolia are cultivated in the Crimea and the Caucasus.
